City signs collective agreement on conditions of service

The City of Cape Town’s Corporate Services Directorate is pleased to announce that the collective agreement on a new set of conditions of service for the Cape Metro Division of SALGA has been signed. The objectives of the agreement are to establish common and local uniform conditions of service for employees within the scope of the Cape Metro Division of the South African Local Government Bargaining Council (SALGBC).

‘This is a massive milestone and achievement as the previous agreement lapsed in 2019 and we have been extending it year-on-year. The newly signed agreement will be in effect for the next five years; it came into operation on 1 October 2025 and will terminate on 30 September 2030. I would particularly like to thank our Corporate Services team, SALGA and the trade unions for working together in ensuring the new agreement,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.
The agreement covers a broad range of conditions from special leave, unpaid leave, additional sick leave, acting allowances, night work allowances, standby allowances, shift allowances, emergency work, and legal indemnification to long service recognition.

The terms of the agreement shall, unless otherwise provided and subject to any other collective agreements in place, apply to all employees and employers who fall within the scope of the Cape Metro Division of the SALGBC in the Republic of South Africa.
